What is EPSDT?

Members need to know about Early Periodic Screening Diagnosis and Treatment…

EPSDT, Early Periodic Screening Diagnosis and Treatment, is a well-child medical and dental screening for Medicaid participants under age 21 and Nevada Check Up members.

The screening includes:

  • A medical and developmental history
  • An unclothed physical exam
  • Immunizations
  • Laboratory tests
  • Health education
  • Vision services
  • Hearing services
  • And other medically needed services

Experimental and unsafe treatments are not part of the EPSDT screening.

How often is an EPSDT screening done?
Health Plan of Nevada (HPN) will mail a postcard to let you know it is time for an EPSDT screening. You can also ask your primary care provider (PCP) for an EPSDT screening when you think it might be needed.

Is there a charge for an EPSDT screening?
No, EPSDT screenings are free for Medicaid participants and Nevada Check Up members.

Where should I call for an appointment?
You may call your primary care provider for an appointment. If you need help getting an appointment or picking a primary care provider, call our Member Services Department at 702-242-7317 or 1-800-962-8074.

What if specialist services are needed after the EPSDT screening?
Your PCP will help you make an appointment with a specialist. HPN can also help you get to the specialist. Call our Member Services Department at 702-242-7317 or 1-800-962-8074 for help.

What if dental services are needed?
Members may have a dental exam and cleaning every six months. Appointments may be made by directly contacting any Medicaid participating dentist. Click on the Provider Directory tab for a list of participating dentists near you.
